Payne\u2019s work ranges from geometric hard-edge abstraction from the 1970s to<br>intensely colorful landscapes and portraits, many of which depict South Texas in intimate detail, mixing<br>abstraction with representation. Her work can defy easy categorization, however the thread that runs<br>through her work is an eye for beauty in myriad subjects and a grasp of color that presents the viewer<br>with new ways to view the ordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elizabeth Payne is originally from the Midwest, and grew up near Chicago, where she found her love of art by taking the train downtown to the Chicago Art Institute. She attended the Cleveland Institute of Art and<br>earned her Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Fine Art from the San Francisco Art Institute. After being accepted to<br>participate in the 1975 Whitney Biennial, she moved to New York and earned an MFA from Hunter<br>College.
