Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art was founded to give the Victoria and South Texas community broad access to contemporary art by regional and national artists; to foster creativity and discovery in our visitors; and to celebrate the cultural diversity of South Texas. The museum is also dedicated to furthering multidisciplinary arts and education through programs coordinated with community organizations, area school districts, and institutions of higher learning.<\/p>\n
Victoria\u2019s heritage was born from the diversity of Mexican and European foundations and\u00a0tolerance of the varied cultures and religions those immigrants brought. The Five Points\u00a0Museum of Contemporary Art serves as an art and cultural nexus that reflects that rich history\u00a0and promising future of South Texas.<\/p>\n
Museum founder Ann Harithas has deep ties to Victoria. She grew up in Victoria and Tivoli and\u00a0has been involved in creating art and curating artists since the 1970\u2019s. From gallery owner to\u00a0internationally exhibited artist, Mrs. Harithas also founded Houston\u2019s Art Car Museum, and has\u00a0dedicated herself to exploring contemporary art and its connection to the community.<\/p>\n
She chose to create an exhibition space at the \u201cFive Points\u201d intersection for both its literal\u00a0central location and its symbolic placement at the \u201ccrossroads\u201d of South Texas. The museum\u00a0has been crafted from a repurposed car dealership built in the mid-20th century, and is\u00a0currently in the process of a multi-year remodeling effort.<\/p>\n
