McKay Otto: In the Ethereal/Present

August 28, 2025 by Russell Fowler

McKay Otto, So What If

On view through January 11, 2026.

On Saturday, September 27th, from 5-8PM, Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art opens a new exhibition featuring a large body of work by Texas artist McKay Otto. The exhibition, “In the Ethereal/Present” features work across disciplines, from subtle portraits with layered abstractions to sculptures assembled with found objects.

McKay Otto, Know

McKay Otto has been making art for over 30 years; raised in Fort Bend County near Houston, his work is rooted in Texas while gaining international recognition. This exhibition will feature a selection of portraits of notable citizens of South Texas who have made significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Victoria. These works feature his layered photo-luminescent abstraction, so that they change with the light. In this, they both enhance understanding of the subject and ask the viewer to consider the ethereal nature of existence. Also on display will be Otto’s sculptures, in which he repurposes materials as varied as recycled clothing to jigsaw puzzle pieces and imbues them with thoughtful commentary and often humor.

The exhibit will be on view through January 11, 2026.
